U.S. Capitol Police on Tuesday announced plans to step up security personnel this week because of a conspiracy theory related to former President Trump.
What they are saying: “The Department is aware of the information and intelligence relating to March 4 and continues to work with all of our law enforcement partners”, the agency tweeted, adding that “it communicated our improved posture, as well as the intelligence available to the entire workforce.”
Why does it matter: Washington, DC remains on the edge after the deadly Capitol uprising on January 6.
- The QAnon conspirators propagated the baseless claim that March 4 is the date of Trump’s real inauguration. This is based on the fact that the presidents were sworn in on March 4 before 1933.
For registration: In mid-February, the Capitol Police requested that about 5,000 National Guard soldiers remain in Washington until March 12, according to CNN.
