Capitol Police: Second officer injured in car attack is in stable condition

US Capitol Police confirmed late on Friday that a second officer who was injured in Friday’s car attack in Washington, DC, is in stable condition and is not facing fatal injuries.

“UPDATE: The other USCP officer who was hit by the car is in a stable, non-threatening condition,” the Capitol Police announced in a tweet from the force’s official Twitter.

The update comes after the force announced that Capitol Policeman William “Billy” Evans was killed when a man, allegedly identified as Noah Green, crashed a car into a barrier at the Capitol.

Green was later shot dead by the police when he got out of the car and reportedly attacked the police with a knife.

The injured police officer has not yet been identified.

The knife and car attack on Friday came less than three months after the January 6 riot on Capitol Hill.

Capitol police officer Brian Sicknick died of injuries he sustained after contacting the pro-Trump crowd, while two other police officers at the scene later died of suicide.

Lawmakers throughout the day said they were keeping Capitol police officers in their thoughts.

“The news from Capitol is heartbreaking. Our @CapitolPolice has been through a lot this year and continues to sacrifice for our protection. My most sincere condolences to the families of the dead and wounded policemen, ”tweeted Rep. Blake Moore (R-Utah).
