Defender Zdeno Chara joined a new NHL team this season, signing as a free agent with Washington Capitals after serving as Boston Bruins’ longtime captain.
This change of address had nothing to do with New Jersey. However, a new batch of hockey sticks somehow ended up at Garden State.
Ariel Ben-Abraham, the owner of a clothing store in New Jersey, received a FedEx box delivered to his home on January 25 – nothing out of the ordinary for his work. When he opened it, he was shocked to find the pack of hockey sticks, all named after Chara and his number 33.
“This should take the cake as the strangest thing I got by mistake,” Ben-Abraham told ESPN. “Sticks of the future Hall of Fame, for the tallest player in NHL history? This is crazy. These odds don’t even make sense. “
The submission was, of course, an error. ESPN reported that True Hockey, the maker of Chara clubs, contacted FedEx and Ben-Abraham after photos of the shipment accident were posted on social media. FedEx told True Hockey that the clubs were at a shipping center in Memphis, which was clearly not the case.

In addition, the Chara bat model – Project X – is not yet available to the public. Therefore, the company has been working with Ben-Abraham and the Capitals to take the sticks to Chara.
Capitals is scheduled to visit New York to play against Rangers, so this could be the time when the future Hall of Fame defender will finally have his new batons.
