Capital investments in Disney parks drop 43% as new attractions are completed and others blocked or canceled

In the first quarter of 2021 financial results for The Walt Disney Company, Disney stated that capital investments in parks decreased by 43% quarter on quarter. The company spent just $ 760 million in the first quarter, which is considerably less than the $ 1.3 billion spent in the previous quarter.

It is important to note that Avengers Campus is almost complete at Disney California Adventure, Remy Ratatouille Adventure appears to be ready and waiting to open, while most other EPCOT projects have slowed down to a crawl. TRON Lightcycle Run in the Magic Kingdom continues to be built, but only in the assembly of a lighted roof, with all internal work interrupted. It seems that at this point it will take a while before we get to mount this attraction.

Disney also silently put Reflections: Disney Lakeside Lodge on hold at Walt Disney World and removed references to the project from their websites.

Star Wars Galactic Starcrusier, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind and Harmonious were also mentioned explicitly by CEO Bob Chapek in today’s conference call, but no opening dates or time periods were mentioned for these projects. This may indicate that they will be opened before offers that have not been launched today.
