Capital cities are distributing Cobra Kai and Miyagi-Do tiaras to offensive and defensive players this season

Peter Laviolette had a lot of free time in 2020. Canned by Nashville Predators earlier this year and then forced into quarantine due to the coronavirus pandemic, Laviolette watched TV to pass the time. One of the programs he particularly liked was Netflix Snake Kai – a serial sequence for The Karate Kid movies.

Laviolette loved the show so much that it let him inspire the capitals’ new and ridiculous post-game awards. Plural form. I’ll let the coach explain.

Here is the transcript of Laviolette’s presentation inside the locker room for the offensive and defensive players of the game: TJ Oshie (three assists) and Brenden Dillon (first goal since 2019).

Peter Laviolette: Great game. Great first win. Excellent job. I was away for a year, so I watched all the shows out there. Every series out there. The best series out there was Cobra Kai. So I thought about it and got this bandana. Right here for the most offensive player in the game tonight. That would be TJ Oshie. Where are you, Osh?

[loud applause]

Peter Laviolette: Inverted March. I will tie it for you. You can tie the next one.

Alex Ovechkin: YEA. NINJA! NINJA!

[Lavy ties headband tight against TJ’s head]

TJ Oshie: Jesus.

Peter Laviolette: Wait. We don’t end here because there is Miyagi’s camp. Attack first. Strike hard. Miyagi is all about defense. So [assistant coach Kevin McCarthy] picked up his bandana. Continues.

Kevin McCarthy: We talked before the guys attacked to score goals, the defense won championships here. But resistance is hard to beat. Dilly.

[Player loudly yells YES]

[Absurd laughing]

[Dillon and Oshie do ninja poses]

One of the show’s creators, Jon Hurwitz, was shocked when he saw the Capitals tribute online. “Some of us at @CobraKaiSeries have a new favorite hockey team,” he wrote on Twitter.

Here is the trailer for the third season of the show.
