Finding where to buy the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 is a nightmare. But AMD may have the answer in its new Radeon RX6700 0XT, a rival 1440p graphics card.
With 12 GB of GDDR6 video memory and promising to offer twice the performance of older generation video cards, the Radeon RX 6700 XT was designed to fight the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070. Especially for $ 479, the RX 6700 outperforms the $ 499 for the RTX 3070.
While using the same GPU RDNA 2 architecture found on the most powerful Radeon RX 6900, RX 6800 XT and RX 6800 graphics cards, the RX 6700 XT is aimed at the mid-market. AMD’s own benchmarks show that the RX 6700 can deliver well over 60 frames per second at 1440p in games like Cyberpunk 2077 and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.
The red team also defended how the Radeon RX 6700 XT beats Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 2080 Super, a next-generation GeForce graphics card, but which is still very powerful. The fact that Nvidia chose this card for comparison suggests that AMD sees the RX 6700 as a good replacement for GeForce RTX owners who can’t find a 30 series RTX card due to lack of stock.
But the RX 6700 XT also offers competitive performance with the RTX 3070, often outperforming it on AMD benchmarks or just lagging behind games like Gears 5. We need to see independent tests to assess how well the RX 6700 XT it comes out of AMD’s labs, but it looks like a very promising 1440p gaming video card.
The RX 6700 XT also comes equipped with the latest technology from AMD, including 96 MB of Infinity Cache to help increase graphics bandwidth, as well as support for ray tracing, Radeon Anti-Lag technology and Smart Access Memory. Basically, this allows AMD Ryzen processors, such as the AMD Ryzen 5000 series, to have better access to the memory of a Radeon GPU.
In short, the Radeon RX 6700 XT is transforming itself into a solid 1440p game player and video card that will have frame rates in excess of 160 fps in 1080p e-sports titles.
Scheduled for a March 18 release date, we’ll see if AMD can attract people to opt for the Radeon RX 6700 XT instead of the GeForce RTX 3070. But more importantly, we expect it to be much easier to buy than existing graphics cards. both the Radeon 6000 series and the GeForce RTX 30 series, all very difficult to find.
The same is true for machines using AMD’s RDNA 2 technology, notably Sony and Microsoft’s new game consoles. Refueling updates on the PS5 are very difficult to spot quickly, and locating where to buy the Xbox Series X is a big pain at the moment.
