Canadian police accused of posing for photos in front of the body

Two Canadian police officers were filmed laughing and posing for photos in front of a dead man.

Videographer Zachary Ratcliffe captured the incident last week on a beach in Stanley Park, where a dead man was lying on the sand, reported the Canadian agency CBC News.

The images showed one of the policemen taking pictures while the other posed in front of the body.

“I cannot explain why these policemen were doing this, but seeing them laughing and clearly not understanding the gravity of the situation, and not offering the dignity and respect that a deceased person deserves, seemed to me an insensitive act,” Ratcliffe told the outlet.

The Vancouver Police Department said the two officers were dispatched to the scene to protect the area before the coroner could arrive.

No cause has been disclosed for the man’s death, but authorities are not treating this as a suspect.

The two policemen were transferred while the agency is investigating their alleged conduct.

“From [Monday] morning, pursuant to Section 110 of the Police Act, the VPD reassigned the two officers to non-deployable administrative positions, while the [Office of Police Complaint Commissioner] the investigation is ongoing, ”police spokeswoman Simi Heer told the media.
