Can the 2021 BMW M4 Competition rival a basic Porsche 911 Carrera?

If you live in the UK and are looking for an excellent rear-wheel drive sports car, would your money be better spent on the new BMW M4 Competition or a basic Porsche 911 Carrera?

It is worth mentioning from the beginning that the new M4 Competition has a significant power advantage over the 911 Carrera. While the 3.0-liter inline twin-turbocharged and six BMW muscles produce 503 hp and 479 lb-ft (650 Nm), a basic Carrera has 380 hp and 332 lb-ft (450 Nm) of its 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged flat-six .

Despite this power deficit, a drag race between the pair shows that the 911 puts its power on the ground much more effectively and leaves the line faster than the BMW. In one of the races, however, the M4 Competition managed to reach the Porsche and overtake it before the finish line.

Of course, cars like these are much more than straight-line performance, so most of this face-to-face analysis focuses on how they perform on a track. The rear engine layout of the 911 Carrera means that it behaves very differently from the front engine M4 Competition, but both seem to be a lot of fun to drive within their respective limits.

Ultimately, however, the reviewers agree that the 911 is the best tracking tool, although it is a real dispute between the pair when it comes to which one they prefer to buy with their own money.
