Camera shows Minneapolis police shooting dead at a driver

Dramatic footage from the police body camera shows the moment Minneapolis police officers shot and killed a man during a traffic stop on Wednesday.

The footage, released by police in the city of Minnesota on Thursday, shows a policeman pointing a gun at a white sedan that starts to move away from him at a gas station.

Another police officer is heard shouting, “Stop the car!”

The policeman using the body camera yells at the driver: “Hands up. Hands up.”

The white car pulls away in the snow, but is cornered by three police vehicles.

“Raise your hands, police,” the policeman is heard with the camera shouting. “Hands in the air…. F – k.”

Several shots then resound.

The 27-second video was posted on the city’s website at around 5 pm on Thursday.

The driver, identified by the family on Thursday as Dolal Idd, 23, appears to have an object in his hand at one point in the video, but it is unclear whether the first photo came from his vehicle.

Minneapolis police did not say whether a gun was recovered from the vehicle, but sources told WCCO-TV it did.

Minneapolis police chief Medaria Arradondo said during a news conference that the department would release the images in an effort to be transparent.

The police said police officers were trying to detain Idd, but did not provide details of why they sought to question him.

A woman in the passenger seat during the shooting was not injured.

The shooting was the first death involved by police in the city since the death of George Floyd on May 25 in custody, whose death helped trigger global protests by the Black Lives Matter.
