Anyone who has been questioned by a group of teenagers knows that this can be demoralizing. It doesn’t matter how old you are or even if you’re an decorated NFL quarterback – it’s just not fun.
Cam Newton experienced the same thing at a football camp, when one of the boys present made fun of him calling him a free agent and “dumb”:
If being the No. 1 overall choice in the 2011 draft, winning an MVP award, winning three Pro Bowl nods and playing in the Super Bowl sucks, well, what does that make us?
Scream at Newton for handling the situation well, noting that he is rich – he has turned $ 122 million in his career, so yes, he is rich – and asking where the child’s father is during the comings and goings.
Yes, Newton will be a free agent in the off-season of 2021. But considering that every NFL player is better at football than most of us at anything we do in life – even if their best football may be behind them – perhaps we should think twice before saying that someone like Newton is an idiot. Just a thought.
