Calipari says Kentucky vs. Texas A&M was canceled

Kentucky will not face Texas A&M Aggies on Tuesday night, John Calipari announced on Saturday.

During a post-game interview with KSR’s own Matt Jones on ESPN Radio, the UK coach said the team’s game against Texas A&M was canceled, marking the seventh direct postponement and / or cancellation for the Aggies.

“Now the game was canceled on Tuesday, so we still have a few,” said Calipari. “I hope that next week we will have some of our league games that were canceled at home.”

Over the weekend, Texas A&M was forced to postpone six consecutive games, with five delays as a result of positive results from the COVID-19 test, contact tracking and subsequent quarantine of individuals within the program.

After Kentucky’s victory in Tennessee on Saturday afternoon, Calipari did not seem optimistic about Tuesday night’s game, adding that the UK is likely to play three SEC games in the final week of the season.

“Yes (we could add new games), but the challenge these kids just went through, I’m not sure if it won’t take us a few days to catch their breath,” said Calipari. “So try to play A&M and South Carolina that last week, where we had three games. Play in Mississippi, then two games at home before our conference tournament. That is what I would like to do. These kids need a breather, come on. They went through a challenge. “

If Calipari’s proposal materializes, Kentucky won’t play until Saturday, when the Wildcats face the Florida Gators at the Rupp Arena, followed by the team’s trip to Oxford, MS for a battle with Ole Miss on Tuesday, March 2. Then, according to Calipari’s Suggestion, the UK would fit into the Texas A&M and South Carolina replacement games between March 3 and 7, giving Kentucky four more games on the schedule.

And then, from there, the UK would head to Nashville the following week for the SEC tournament.

It will be a busy couple of weeks.
