California official calls for pause in Modern vaccine batch after possible allergic reaction

Dr. Erica S. Pan, an epidemiologist from California, issued a statement on Sunday recommending a pause in the distribution of a specific lot of Moderna vaccine after “less than 10 individuals needed medical attention during the 24-hour period.”

She said Moderna Lot 041L20A is in question, but she insisted she asked for the break “out of an extreme abundance of caution,” according to Fox 11.

The report reports that more than 330,000 doses of the batch have already been distributed across the state to 287 providers. Fox 5 San Diego reported that the California Department of Public Health said that less than 10 people appeared to be experiencing “a possible severe allergic reaction during the standard observation period.”

The statement said Moderna, the CDC and the FDA are analyzing the batch and said that no vaccine or medical procedure is risk-free. Moderna did not immediately respond to an out-of-hours e-mail from Fox News.
