California man allegedly tried to bury his wife alive during an attack on the beach after an argument, police said

California police arrested a man after his “badly injured” wife called 911 to report that her husband had allegedly tried to kill her by throwing her into the water and then burying her alive, officials said recently.

The woman called the Coronado City Police Department shortly before 9 pm local time on Wednesday, telling dispatchers that “her husband had just tried to kill her on the beach,” officials said in a post on Facebook announcing the alleged crime.

The police arrived at Ocean Boulevard to find the victim on the sidewalk, seriously injured.

Respondents took her to a local hospital for treatment. Her husband, identified as José Luis Mares III, a 23-year-old Moreno Valley resident, was charged with attempted murder, assault with major bodily injuries, domestic violence, private imprisonment and violation of parole, police said.

Records show that he is now being held at San Diego Central Prison.
