California forest fires: fire in San Diego County Creek leads to evacuations in nearby Camp Pendleton

Camp Pendleton issued a mandatory evacuation for DeLuz Housing, Wounded Warrior Battalion and Lake O’Neile Campground due to the fire near the Naval Weapons Station – Fallbrook.

The “Creek fire”, which broke out on Wednesday night near Fallbrook, forced the evacuation of at least 7,000 residents.

The southwestern part of the state is under a red flag alert – hot, dry and windy conditions – until noon on Thursday.

The gusts of wind have reached their peak and will “slowly but surely weaken”, according to the National Weather Service San Diego

It is common for utility companies to enact a Public Safety Power Shutdown (PSPS) to prevent the equipment from causing fires during such weather conditions.

The San Diego Gas & Electric (SDGE) concessionaire preventively shut down the power of 6,797 customers, while 24,725 customers are under notice.

Southern California Edison (SCE) has shut down 19,216 of its 5 million customers and another 155,368 are being considered. No San Diego County customer will be affected, according to the SCE website.
