California earthquake reported north of Monterey area

An earthquake initially measured at 4.5 magnitude shook northern California on Saturday night, according to reports.

The earthquake was felt in much of the San Francisco Bay area, reported San Jose’s Mercury News.

The epicenter of the earthquake was near Aromas, about 30 miles northeast of Monterey, according to the US Geological Survey website.

No tsunami is expected to result from the earthquake, wrote the National Weather Service on Twitter.

Injuries or major structural damage resulting from the earthquake were not immediately known.

Mercury News reported the earthquake as a 4.2 agitator, slightly less powerful than a 4.3 earthquake that hit the same region on January 2. The two earthquakes were the strongest in California in 2021, reporter Robert Salonga tweeted.
