Cadillac’s Lyriq SUV represents quite a dramatic change on purpose for the American luxury brand. It is the company’s first all-electric SUV and, as such, Cadillac is looking to differentiate it from other models. One way to do this is to move out of the normal automotive channels to design the user interface for your infotainment system.
Cadillac announced on Thursday that it has partnered with Territory Studios, a veteran of the video game industry who recently contributed to CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077, and Rightpoint, a company focused on designing user experiences.
Now, before you prepared all of your Cyberpunk bug jokes, Territory was responsible for the Cyberpunk 2077 logo design and not, well, for everything else. Rightpoint worked on campaigns for retailers like B&H Photo and Walgreens.
“When designing the user interface for Cadillac, we started with a vision, but we recognized that we would need a new perspective and new ways of thinking to make it a reality,” said Bill Thompson, senior manager of UI design at GM , in a statement. “That’s when Rightpoint and Territory Studio came on the scene. Both teams are incredibly talented and brought a new perspective that allowed us to design a personalized and elegant user-focused experience.”
And elegant is an excellent way to describe the user interface, at least with regard to the Cadillac demo video, incorporated above. They are all clear and minimalist illustrations and clear and readable text. The digital buttons or touch points are also clearly identified, and as long as the system is as agile and smooth as it looks in the video, there’s a lot to cheer up about.
Cadillac’s Lyriq is due to start shipping in late 2022, with a starting price of about $ 60,000.
