BYU Sweep Beavers in a Walkoff

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Jacob Melton’s The single walkoff led the Oregon State baseball team to a 4-3 win and a win over BYU on Saturday afternoon at Goss Stadium in Coleman Field.

Kyle Froemke opened the ninth with a walk, moved on to the second in a Wade Meckler sac bunt and then to the third when Preston Jones bunted for a single. Melton then directed a 3-1 shot by the reliever BYU Drew Zimmerman to the left, bringing Froemke into the race for victory.

The RBI limited a day 2 to 4 for the Medford native. He drove in three of the Beavers’ four races; the first two came on a fifth and seventh entry sacrifice fly.

Froemke doubled the first round of the OSU day (10-1 overall) in a one-two on Thursday, which tied the game to one.

BYU, who scored first in the fourth, went up 3-2 in a two-run home run by Joshua Cowden in the seventh. OSU, however, tied the game on Melton’s fly in the bottom half of the turn.

Jake Mulholland won the victory after launching a ninth goalless; he’s 1-0 this season. BYU reliever (3-8), Tyson Heaton, has been accused of defeat and is 0-1.

Melton and Justin Boyd each had two attempts to follow the state of Oregon; the beavers ended up with nine in total.
