BYU Basketball: three keys to the Cougars’ 79-73 victory over San Francisco Dons

It was a little stressful in the final stretch, but BYU Cougars came out with their third straight win on Thursday night, beating the San Francisco Dons 79-73 at the Marriott Center in Provo. The victory was the Cougars’ fifth in the last six games.

Here are three keys to the contest.

  • BYU threw 59 percent of the field compared to just 38 percent in San Francisco, although the Dons were able to counteract a little by making seven more free throws and another 3 points.
  • The cougars won the assist battle by 10 (23-13) and the rebound battle by six (35-29).
  • Alex Barcello scored BYU’s last seven points over the final 1:37 of the game, while San Francisco tried to make a late rally. During the night, Barcello led all scorers with 29 points and set a school record by making a perfect 7 out of 7 behind the 3 point line.
