BYU Basketball: 3 keys in the defeat of the WCC championship to Gonzaga Bulldogs

BYU Cougars led the Gonzaga Bulldogs in the championship ranking of the West Coast Conference on Tuesday night in Las Vegas, but the Bulldogs asserted themselves along the way to obtain victory and remain undefeated in the season.

Here are three keys to the contest.

  • The Cougars were leading by 12 at the break after hitting the lights in the first 20 minutes, but the draw was 73 with just over four minutes to go and Gonzaga scored the next nine points of the game to take control.
  • After hitting 9 out of 13 behind the 3-point line in the first half, BYU scored just 2 out of 15 in the second half. The Bulldogs hit 6 out of 13 in the two halves.
  • Gonzaga won at least 13 points in all the starting points, with Jalen Suggs’ 23 points leading all the top scorers. Eight of them occurred during the crucial final stage. Trevin Knell led the Cougars with 20 points from the bench, Alex Barcello had 15 and Matt Haarms 13.
