Busy Philipps reveals that his son Birdie, 12, is gay, prefers the pronouns they / they

Busy Philipps made a big reveal about one of her children.

The former Dawson’s Creek student talked about his 12-year-old son Birdie in an episode of his podcast “Busy Philipps Is Doing Her Best” and shared that Birdie is gay.

“For those of you who are my friends listening at home, this is the first time you’ve heard that Birdie is gay and outgoing,” said Philipps, 41, for Just Jared. “Birdie told us at 10 and we immediately … I mean, obviously, I knew that Birdie knew.”

The star shares Birdie and her daughter Cricket Pearl, 7, with her husband, filmmaker Marc Silverstein.

In addition, Philipps shared that, instead of her / his pronouns, Birdie prefers their pronouns, which was a fit for the actress.

“I said, ‘You know, Bird, I’ve been doing a terrible job with the pronouns,'” said the “Cougar Town” actress.

She continued, “Because Birdie said they would like their pronouns to be them / them, and I haven’t done that, and said because I have this public person and I want Birdie to control his own narrative and not have to answer to anyone outside of our friends and family if they don’t want to. “

Young Birdie had no reservations about whether her mother shared the information.

“Bird was like, ‘I don’t give a shit. You can talk about how gay and outgoing I am; you can talk about my pronouns. That would be cool for me. This is great, ”explained Philipps. “So I said, ‘OK, I can talk about it on the podcast.'”
