Bungie will finally fix Destiny 2’s Exotic Aeon Cult

Destiny 2The company’s worst exotics – Aeon Cult’s gauntlets – are being reworked in the Season of the Chosen, Bungie announced on Thursday in his weekly blog. The studio revealed additional plans to bring Exotic Catalysts back into the game as well. And the blog post gave players a first look at some of the new loot in Chosen Season, including the new weapons from the Osiris Challenges.

The Cult of Exotics Aeon – added to Curse of Osiris expansion, the first after Destiny twolaunch – are some of the worst pieces of armor in Destiny’s history. The gloves require other players in your squad to use Aeon Cult Exotic (Aeon Safe for Titans, Aeon Swift for Hunters and Aeon Soul for Warlocks). When you use certain skills while putting your gloves on, you then return the energy of the ability to other players who use your Exotic Aeon. It was a good idea, but the privilege turned out to be weak and difficult to coordinate.

Bungie is taking this concept and adjusting it slightly for the Chosen Season. With its original teamwork philosophy in mind, Bungie will allow players to personalize their Aeon Exotics, making the gauntlets unique to each situation. As of February 9, Aeon Exotics will have no unique exotic advantages to choose from. Instead, Guardians will be able to insert special mods into their gauntlets to assist their team in specific ways.

The Aeon Cult mod called Sect of Force causes quick precision shots to increase reload and weapon switching speed. But in a squad, defeating a boss / miniboss or stunning a champion grants allies grenade and melee energy. If you are the only player in your squad using the Sect of Force mod, your allies will also gain Superenergy.

Each of these Sect mods for the Aeon Cult Exotics works in a similar way. You get a bonus for yourself, a bonus for allies and an additional bonus if no one else is running the same mod. Ideally, this change should make Aeon Safe, Aeon Swift and Aeon Soul usable – especially on difficult content like Grand Master Nightfalls.

Bungie also announced plans to bring a series of Exotic Catalysts – updates for players of exotic weapons who can win in a variety of ways – back to Destiny 2. These Catalysts were previously available and players who already won them could continue to reap the rewards:

  • Bad Juju
  • Izanagi’s Burden
  • Sleeping simulator
  • The Huckleberry
  • Worldline Zero
  • Polaris Lance
  • Telesto
  • Legend of Acrius
  • Skyburner oath

Bungie did not say how the Guardians can get these Catalysts, only that they will be available again in the Season of the Chosen. The studio also noted that Catalysts for Whisper of the Worm and Outbreak Perfected will not be returning until a future update.

Finally, Bungie gave players a better look at the arsenal of goodies to come in the Season of the Chosen, including new Trials armor, Trials weapons, Trials cosmetic loot, Vanguard weapons, this season’s chase weapon and weapons of Season of the Chosen.
