Bungie is changing fate 2 weekly rewards, cancels crimson days next season

Bungie is making a series of changes in Destiny 2 starting in its next season, adjusting how content will be distributed and how you will earn rewards when you log in. As of the next season of content, Bungie is ending its weekly reward system that requires players to sign up and complete certain goals in a week to earn certain rewards, including premium currency.

The latest This Week At Bungie blog describes how Destiny 2 will change from the next content season, which starts on February 9th. Currently, players can log in each week and receive weekly rewards from various game suppliers, which reward experience points and Bright Dust, one of Destiny 2’s premium coins, upon completion. You only have one week to eliminate these rewards after you have them, and if you want to maximize your XP earnings (which controls your escalation to rewards in the Destiny 2 season pass) and your Shiny Dust earnings, you need to play all weeks.

Bungie is replacing this system with a new one called Seasonal Challenges. New challenges are unlocked each week for the first 10 weeks of a new season, giving players goals to pursue a variety of activities. Instead of expiring every week, however, the challenges pile up and last until the end of the season, so you can skip a week or two (or more) and still get back in the game and earn your rewards.

We have already heard about how Bungie is changing its seasonal activities this year to reduce “FOMO”, or fear of losing, among players who can leave the game and return after long periods. For the past two years, the seasonal Destiny 2 model added new activities to the game every few months, but those activities would only persist in the game until the beginning of the next season. This ends this year, when new events will begin with each new season, but they will not be removed from the game when a new season ends – at least, not until the next expansion is launched in November.

Seasonal reward changes also aim to combat FOMO and make it easier for players who are unable to login each week. Bungie also said that the seasonal challenge model aims to give players who have only one character in Destiny 2 a level playing field with those who have three. Seasonal challenges cover all characters in one account, so you don’t have to log in with each of the three characters every week to complete the same rewards to earn full rewards.

Although seasonal challenges persist throughout a season and some remain available as long as their corresponding seasonal activities are still in play, you will still have to claim your challenges before the end of a given content season. Therefore, you will not be able to get experience or Shining Powder from the previous season’s challenges when a new one starts.

Although seasonal activities last a long time, there is at least one thing that will not be returning this year; it’s Crimson Days, Destiny 2’s Valentine’s Day holiday. The event usually features a special Double Crucible mode, in which teams of two players face off, as well as some Valentine’s Day-themed rewards. Bungie wrote that the quality of Crimson Days has not reached its standards in recent years and, therefore, the holiday event is entering its “Content Vault” for now.
