When you’re already spending millions to buy a new Bugatti, what does it cost the carmaker a few more dollars to spend two more years creating the perfect custom paint that really sets your car apart from everything else?
This is the Bugatti Divo “Lady Bug” – a unique personalized work for a single customer, according to a press release. With a starting price of approximately $ 6 million for the Divo itself, it is unclear what the final price of the Lady Bug would be. But what is clear is that the car is impressive.
About 1,600 diamond shapes make up the pattern. Each has been checked and realigned to fit perfectly.

Bugatti recently created a personalized and unique Divo for a customer, nicknamed Divo “Lady Bug”.
It is one of 40 examples of the Divo that Bugatti will build.
The Divo uses a layer of rich red paint and a diamond-patterned design that took about two years to complete.
The customer based in the United States wanted a geometric pattern in the shape of a diamond.
They also wanted the car to contrast with the metallic paints “Customer Special Red” and “Graphite”.
Applying diamond patterns to the car was a very difficult task.
Due to the fact that the Divo has many surface contours, the 2D printed diamond pattern looked “distorted” once applied to the car.
“Due to the nature of the project, in which a 2D graphic was applied to a 3D sculpture, and after several failed ideas and attempts to apply the diamonds, we were close to giving up and saying, ‘We cannot fulfill the customer’s request,'” Jörg Grumer, Bugatti’s head of colors and embellishments, said.
What the team ended up doing was using a transfer film and gluing around 1,600 diamonds on the body and making minor adjustments as needed.
After painting, each diamond was removed and the car was repainted to eliminate imperfections.
This part of the work alone took more than two weeks to complete. But here’s the result.
The colors blend smoothly.
Up close, you can really appreciate the complexity of the job.
Each diamond looks slightly different from the other.
You could almost spend the whole day looking at this thing.
From a distance, the pattern creates a cold gradient.
The Divo uses an 8.0-liter W12 engine that produces almost 1,500 horsepower.
It has a restricted top speed of around 236 mph.
All Divos are built at Bugatti’s headquarters in Molsheim, France.
Deliveries started in August 2020.
All Divos were spoken and will be delivered later this year.
It is not clear how much Divo “Lady Bug” cost.
But the starting price of $ 6 million for a normal Divo should give you an idea.
