Stars that appeared in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and your spinoff, Angel, are supporting actor Charisma Carpenter after she spoke out against the show’s creator, Joss Whedon, on Wednesday.
“Although I am proud to have my name associated with Buffy Summers, I don’t want to be associated with the name Joss Whedon forever,” said Sarah Michelle Gellar, who played the vampire hunter in an Instagram post.
“I am with all the survivors of abuse and I am proud of them for speaking,” she said.
“Thank you @sarahmgellar for saying that,” added co-star Michelle Trachtenberg, who played Dawn, Buffy Summers’ younger sister. “I am brave now as a 35-year-old woman … To go over this. Because. This must. Be known. As a teenager. With your inappropriate behavior.”
“We know what he did,” she added in an Instagram story. “Behind the scenes.”
Other actors in Buffy they also sent their support, including Amber Benson (Tara) and Clare Kramer (Glory).
In a Twitter post on Wednesday, Carpenter, who played Cordelia Chase, accused Whedon of abusive and vindictive behavior with her on set, specifically while she was pregnant.
Carpenter said Whedon said she was “fat”, mocked her religious beliefs, made her shoot late at night despite her pregnancy, and then fired her “unceremoniously” as soon as she gave birth.
“At that time, I felt powerless and alone,” she said. “With no other option, I swallowed the abuse and continued.”
Carpenter said he spoke because he had participated in a Warner Media investigation into Whedon’s behavior on the set of Justice League this was motivated by actor Ray Fisher’s allegations of Whedon’s abusive behavior. Carpenter said he believed in Fisher.
Whedon representatives did not respond to a request for comment from BuzzFeed News.
