‘Buffy’ Star Charisma Carpenter Says Joss Whedon Was Abusive On Set – Deadline

Old Buffy the Rogue and Angel actress Charisma Carpenter accused the creator of these programs, Joss Whedon, of abusive and hostile behavior on the set. In an Instagram message posted today, the actress says the incidents “triggered a chronic physical condition that I still suffer from”.

Carpenter claims that Buffy the creator called her “fat” when she was 4 months pregnant, threatened to fire her and made people compete for her approval on the set.

A specific example she cites is when, in a closed-door meeting after learning of her pregnancy, Carpenter says that Whedon “asked me if I would ‘keep him’.” religious beliefs, accuse me of sabotaging the program and then fired me unceremoniously the following season as soon as I gave birth.

After that meeting, Carpenter said he “felt powerless and alone”, but with a baby on the way, he also felt he had no other option, so “swallowed the abuse and continued.” This lack of power, she says, sucked the joy out of being a new mother. “And Joss was the vampire,” she says.

Carpenter says she was instigated by Justice League the accusations of actor Ray Fisher against Whedon, who directed the film for Warner Bros.

Fisher is at odds with Warner Bros. since last July, accusing Whedon of abuse during post-Zack Snyder remakes of Justice League. A subsequent investigation by Warner Bros. said an unspecified “corrective action” was taken and the investigation was completed. No other details were revealed. Fisher was later released from the studio’s next Flash movie.

Carpenter revealed in her Instagram post on Wednesday that she participated in the Warners investigation, saying she believed in Fisher and that her dismissal from The Flash it was “the last straw for me”. She continues: “It bothers and saddens me that, in 2021, professionals still have to choose between reporting in the workplace and job security.

“As a single mother, whose family’s livelihood depends on my job, I’m afraid. Despite my fear of the impact on my future, I can no longer be silent. This is overdue and necessary. It’s time.”

Deadline contacted WarnerMedia and Whedon representatives for comment, but received no response.
