Buckingham Palace on Tuesday revealed the cause of Prince Philip’s hospitalization, a week after the 99-year-old king was admitted to the hospital.
“The Duke of Edinburgh remains at King Edward VII Hospital, where he is receiving medical attention because of an infection,” the palace said in a statement shared with HuffPost. “He is comfortable and responding to treatment, but he should not be leaving the hospital for several days.”
Sources close to the palace previously confirmed that the duke’s illness was unrelated to COVID-19. Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth received their first COVID-19 vaccination in January.

Prince Edward told Sky News on Tuesday that his father is “much better”.
“He’s looking forward to going out, which is the most positive thing, so we keep our fingers crossed,” said the Earl of Wessex.
When asked if his father was frustrated at the hospital, Edward laughed and said “just a little”.
“I think it affects all of us, so you can only watch the clock so many times and the walls are very interesting,” he said.
“We received brilliant and lovely messages from all kinds of people, and we really appreciate that, and so does he,” added the first. “I’ve been passing them on. It’s fantastic, thanks. ”
Prince William also updated his grandfather on Monday, while visiting a coronavirus vaccination center.
“Yes, he’s fine, they’re keeping an eye on him,” said William with a wink.
