Tom Brady’s first year in Tampa Bay could not have ended better, so both sides were looking forward to an extension of the contract.

Brady, who initially signed a two-year contract last year, agreed to a one-year extension, according to several reports.

The Bucs and Brady are now contractually linked throughout the 2022 season.

While there is no word on the extension’s finances, it presumably reduces Brady’s salary cap number to 2021, which will help Buccaneers keep some of their agents free and then guarantee Brady some money in 2022. Brady he generally made no difficult bargains in his NFL career, first with the Patriots and now with the Buccaneers, and it would not be surprising to see him make another move like this a year from now to reduce his salary cap to 2022.

Brady, who turns 44 in August, has shown no signs of planning to retire any time soon. But this deal makes it a little more likely that, when he retires, it will be with the Buccaneers.
