Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans set an NFL record in receiving yards, but shortly after hitting the target, he left the game against the Atlanta Falcons with a non-contact knee injury.
It looked like Evans had slipped on the grass and fallen.

Evans broke Randy Moss’s record with seven consecutive receiving yards. He had three receptions in 46 yards before being helped off the field with an apparent knee injury. He entered the game having participated in each of Tampa Bay’s 15 games and with 67 receptions for 960 yards.
Since being summoned by the Buccaneers in 2014, Evans has been a machine. He had more than 1,000 receiving yards, but never had more than 100 catches in a single season. He had 13 touchdown passes, the best of his career, before leaving Sunday’s game with a knee injury.

“I think it’s important for him and for us,” Buccaneers offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich said on Thursday on the team’s website. “I think it is really important for this organization to have this. This is a unique thing. At any time you can be one-on-one with anything – all the special players, all the great players who have gone through this league who conquered did things, played in that position – and he has the opportunity to be unique. This is a unique thing. It shows how good he is at football, and this is special. Obviously, you want him to be able to achieve We are not going to try to force him.
