Washington’s defensive side, Chase Young, put Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady on alert. Buccaneers coach Bruce Arians warned Chase Young about putting Tom Brady on alert.
Asked by reporters on Monday about Young’s “Tom Brady, I’m coming” line, Arians said (via Rick Stroud of Tampa Bay Times), “Yes, we’ll be busy, but it’s one of those games that [be] be careful what you wish for. “
Brady is one of those guys that any defense player who says something about or towards him must be careful about what he wants. Extremely motivated, he will use any real or perceived contempt to start the engine even more, a la Michael Jordan.
Remember when Steelers safety Anthony Smith secured a victory over the then unbeaten Patriots in 2007? Brady claimed that he had not heard what Smith had said, and then Brady repeatedly set Smith on fire during the game, while standing in Smith’s face to let him hear what Brady had to say.
“I don’t want to repeat what I said,” said Brady at the time, “especially if my mom reads. She would not be very happy. “
Of course, Anthony Smith was not a big, fast and powerful defense player who would chase Brady all day. The key to defeating Brady is to constantly pressure him, and Young is well equipped for that.
So maybe Young is one of the few who can speak, and who can support that. We’ll find out on Saturday night.
