Browns updated with Malik Jackson instead of Larry Ogunjobi

The veteran tackle is expected to immediately slip into an initial role in 2021.

The 31-year-old will replace Larry Ogunjobi, who signed with Cincinnati Bengals earlier this season.

It was unclear how the Browns would cope with the loss of Ogunjobi, but it looks like they really advanced in the position.

Jackson Over Ogunjobi

No player should be placed in the elite tackle category.

Both are considered average, but Jackson may actually be a slightly better option for Cleveland.

Last season, the two players presented mediocre numbers, but Jackson qualified much better than Ogunjobi.

On paper, it was a bad year for Jackson, but he still found a way to be productive.

His 28 tackles and 2.5 sacks were the lowest since his debut season in 2012.

To be fair, Jackson was a part-time player for the Philadelphia Eagles last season.

He only started in six of the 15 games in which he appeared, which may be part of the reason why his stats are low.

Ogunjobi showed very similar statistics and has been a full-time starter in Cleveland for the past three years.

The Browns were not comfortable with committing to a long-term deal with Ogunjobi, so this may be the best solution for the organization.

Did Cleveland make the right choice?

At first glance, it certainly looks like Cleveland made a smart decision when hiring Jackson.

Throughout his nine seasons, Jackson has 267 tackles, 35 sacks and six forced fumbles in 126 games.

His best seasons were probably behind him, but clearly Jackson was still an impact player last season.

It is also important to note that Jackson has a lot of playoff experience under his belt.

In fact, Jackson played in 11 playoff contests and scored a touchdown during the Super Bowl.

Your experience and veteran leadership should make it worthwhile.

At this point, Jackson just wants a chance to win after getting several heavy contracts early in his career.

He made a $ 4.5 million cheap one-year deal with Cleveland, so it’s hard for them to backfire.

Ogunjobi is a good player and has a lot of potential, but that’s not what the Browns need now.

Cleveland needs a veteran presence that can help to lead and teach younger players.

Fans shouldn’t expect Jackson to make the Pro Bowl, but he should be an upgrade over Ogunjobi.
