CLEVELAND, Ohio – Myles Garrett took a big step on Sunday to cure any remaining bad feelings from the helmet incident.
The defensive end ran for Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph, after the Browns won 24-22 to secure their first playoff spot since 2002, shook his hand and greeted him.
“I just told him ‘good game’,” said Garrett. “Hell of a game. And see you next week. ”
The Browns (11-5) won a rematch with the Steelers (12-4) at Heinz Field next week.
Rudolph did his best to prevent this from happening. With 1:23 to go, he completed a 2-yard touchdown pass to JuJu Smith-Schuster to pull the Steelers into two points. Rudolph’s two-point pass in the end zone to Chase Claypool fell incomplete.
Rudolph, in his call with Steelers reporters, confirmed what Garrett said.
“It was just that,” said Rudolph. “I told him good luck, I had a lot of respect for him. ”
Rudolph, who lost to the Browns by 21-7 in the “helmet game”, completed 22 of 39 attempts for 315 yards with two touchdowns and an interception for a score of 89.2. He hit great 41, 41 and 47 yard passes to keep things close.
Unfortunately for the Browns, Ben Roethlisberger will start against them next week in the wild card game. But Garrett’s gesture could lead to an air cleaning session between him and Rudolph.
Garrett, detained without a resignation on Sunday, told cleveland.com in September that he wanted to do this, and Rudolph said this week that he would be open to hear what Garrett had to say.
Garrett believes they can smooth things over, despite the fact that Garrett says that Rudolph called him the word “N”, an accusation that Rudolph denies.
