The Browns signed their main target at the free agency, securing John Johnson III security. He joins Grant Delpit, a second-round pick in 2020 who missed his debut season with an Achilles tendon injury, and Ronnie Harrison in the backend.
“We think he was one of the NFL’s most versatile security guards,” Browns general manager Andrew Berry said of Johnson through Mary Kay Cabot of cleveland.com. “He can play with free security, strong security and can play in the box for pennies. His breadth of skills that he brings to the table – that he can play cover of man; he can play on the central court; he can support the race – and really do everything at a very high level. It is perfect for what we want to be as a defense.
“In addition, you have your intelligence and your natural leadership. This is something we’re always looking to add to the mix, and we feel lucky that it’s available. “
Berry said Johnson is a player who “does not normally reach the free agent market”.
The Browns signed a three-year $ 33.75 million deal with Johnson.
