Brown criticized Republican colleagues he characterized as having approached Trump’s impeachment trial with a closed mind, despite “the damage he did to his country”.
“It is so clear that this president has abused his power. It is so clear that he incited violence, ”he said. “And my colleagues simply refuse to see it because of their abject fear of Donald Trump.”

Speaking to reporters on Capitol Hill before Saturday’s impeachment proceedings, Brown said he was not sure whether calling witnesses would change the minds of Republicans who have already decided to absolve Trump.
“They know he incited the violence,” he said. “But their fear of the president campaigning against them – I’ve never seen fear do that. You can see it in your eyes. “
“I’m incredulous,” added Brown. “I am incredulous, except that I watched my cowardly colleagues walk around with fear in their eyes for four years. And then maybe I shouldn’t be surprised. “
Brown later joined all 50 Senate Democrats and five Republican Party members to vote in favor of calling witnesses and summoning documents at Trump’s impeachment trial.
