Broward Health runs out of appointments for COVID-19 vaccines after expanding eligibility

BROWARD COUNTY, Florida. – Broward Health announced on Friday that COVID-19 vaccines will soon be available for adults living with diseases such as cancer and pulmonary fibrosis, pregnant women and obese or smoking people.

The first available appointments sold out quickly. According to Jennifer Smith, a spokeswoman for Broward Health, patients who belong to one of the 18 highest-risk groups will be able to make an appointment for the vaccine soon.

“We encourage the community to check BrowardHealth.org frequently for updates on when more vaccine appointments will be available,” wrote Smith late on Friday.

The other qualifying conditions are asthma, cancer, cerebrovascular disease, chronic kidney disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, cystic fibrosis, Down syndrome, heart disease, hypertension or high blood pressure, immune deficiencies, liver disease, neurological diseases, pulmonary fibrosis, cell sickle cell disease, thalassemia and diabetes.

Only those who are pregnant, or have just given birth, or have cancer will need a medical certificate, according to Broward Health.
