As a limited supply of the coronavirus vaccine has become available throughout Florida, residents are understandably anxious to know when they can expect a dose.
One of the largest hospitals in South Florida will open its doors to patients seeking the vaccine and are much younger than required by the state – as long as they meet certain requirements.
Here’s what we know today about the coronavirus outbreak in Florida and the effort to stop it.

Elderly people being vaccinated at Chen medical centers
Up to 1,100 pre-scheduled COVID-19 vaccinations will be administered safely on Saturday at the two newest centers in Miami-Dade and Broward counties.
The events, held at 2230 Northwest 95th Street in Miami and 3460 North Andrews Avenue in Oakland Park, are part of a strategic, multi-faceted alliance with the Florida Department of Health to better protect thousands of elderly people in neighborhoods in need of the coronavirus pandemic.
Broward Health offers vaccines to high-risk people over 18
Broward Health announced on Friday that it opened consultations for COVID-19 vaccines to individuals at risk aged 18 or over.
As of Friday afternoon, all consultations have been completed, according to a spokesman for Broward Health. It is unclear when exactly the health care system will open another batch of consultations, but it will probably be next week.
Patients 18 years of age or older who attend one of the high-risk groups are eligible to receive the vaccine only by appointment.
The FDA Panel Unanimously Recommends Johnson & Johnson Vaccine
A key advisory panel from the Food and Drug Administration on Friday supported Johnson & Johnson’s single-injection coronavirus vaccine for emergency use.
The recommendation is a critical step that paves the way for the distribution of a third preventive treatment in the United States next week.
The non-binding decision, which was adopted 22-0, by the FDA Vaccine and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee, comes at a time when the Biden administration works to increase the supply of vaccine doses and vaccinate Americans as soon as possible .
