Brooklyn fiber cut appears to cause East Coast FiOS disruption

“There’s a fiber cut in Brooklyn. We don’t have ETR yet,” said Verizon Support on Twitter, suggesting that users turn to the FiOS app for more details, which have not yet been provided.

But FiOS users on the East Coast and Northeast are reporting problems with Internet access. Customers in Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington DC and Boston saw their connectivity drop precipitously at the same time as cutting the fiber. The company was unable to confirm whether the two incidents are related.

Zoom school classes were interrupted, as were home work and digital church sessions. Access to other services like Google, Slack, Microsoft Teams and the Verizon app is also currently impossible on many FiOS connections.

“PWCS is aware of the Internet connection problems with Verizon FIOS, affecting students and staff,” said Prince William County Public Schools on Twitter.

“I’m a teacher and I can’t connect now because my Verizon home Internet is down,” said a professor in Virginia on Twitter. “I can’t even talk to my students because I haven’t started class yet. Their final exam is tomorrow.”
