The Broncos posted a video of general manager George Paton’s call to Justin Simmons after the team agreed to make Simmons the highest-paid player in his position.
Simmons will sign a $ 61 million four-year agreement that includes $ 35 million in guarantees. His average of $ 15.25 million a year puts him at the top of his position.
“You deserve it, ”Paton told Simmons on the phone call. “You are the best safety in the league and an even better person. Keep doing what you’re doing. Use your platform and I will support you in any cause you have. We are in this together. I can’t wait to meet you, your wife and your family. It will be fun, man. ”
The Broncos wanted to keep Simmons, and Simmons wanted to keep a long-term deal.
“I promise you, whatever you need me to do on the premises, in terms of leadership, in terms of the game, I promise that everything will be there and a little of what is expected of me. I’m ready for that, ”said Simmons to Paton.
Simmons received All-Pro honors as a second team selection in 2019, when he split 15 passes, the best of his career, and made his first Pro Bowl in 2020, when he had the top five career interceptions.
“He is the complete package both as an elite player for the Broncos and as a leader in our community,” said Paton in a statement. “As a free security, Justin has all the tools you need to be the best. He is an intelligent and instinctive ace who can cover a lot of ground with his athletic ability.
