Broncos agree to terms with CB Ronald Darby

ENGLEWOOD, Colorado – The Broncos would have added a veteran cornerback to their defensive backfield.

According to a report by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Broncos agreed to the terms of a three-year contract with cornerback Ronald Darby.

The change cannot be made official until the free agency starts at 2 pm on Wednesday, March 17.

A second round draft chosen by the Bills in 2015, Darby spent the 2020 season with the Washington Football Team. During his only season in Washington, he started all 16 games and recorded 16 defended passes and 55 tackles for the NFC East champions. Its 16 defended passes ranked fifth in the league in 2020, and Washington’s defense ranked second against the pass.

Before arriving in Washington, the 5-foot-11, 193-pound cornerback spent 2017-2019 with the Eagles, where he began 27 of 48 possible games in three seasons. He was a part-time starter in 2017 on the Super Bowl championship team. Darby recorded six interceptions in total and 32 passes saved during his time with the Eagles.

Darby started his career in Buffalo, where he started 29 games during his first two seasons in the league and recorded two interceptions and 33 saved passes. After a strong rookie campaign in 2015, he was nominated for the NFL’s All-Rookie team.

Darby would join Bryce Callahan and Michael Ojemudia among some of the top options in the Denver cornerback.

Darby is the first player on another team to join the Broncos during the NFL’s legal adulteration period, which began Monday at 10am MT.

On Monday morning, the Broncos reached an agreement with striker Shelby Harris on a new three-year contract.
