The 2020-21 regular season is scheduled to end on May 10. It was originally scheduled to end on May 8, with the Stanley Cup Playoffs starting on May 11.
The NHL has been in a time crisis since the beginning of this season impacted by the coronavirus because the league hopes to return to its traditional cycle for the 2021-22 campaign.
With one of the Flyers’ postponed games now scheduled for May 10, the team can play one of the final games of the 2020-21 NHL regular season. If the Flyers do not play a regular season game after May 10, they are scheduled for 43 games in 82 days.
For comparison, the first 43 Flyers games last season were played in 96 days. In addition to the three-day vacation, it was a relatively normal period, with no extended break before the January All-Star festivities and the NHL mandatory farewell week.
After a seven-day stoppage and four games postponed last week because of the COVID protocols, the Flyers are ready to resume their game schedule on Thursday when they receive the Rangers (7 pm ET / NBCSP). The team is due to travel to Stateline, Nevada, to play against the Bruins on Sunday at one of the NHL Outdoors games in Lake Tahoe this weekend.
The organization has the slogan “Anytime, anywhere”. You will have to play with anyone too.
Flyers don’t have time to feel sorry for themselves. They returned to the ice on Tuesday with 16 players and will have only one full workout on Wednesday before facing Rangers without Claude Giroux, Travis Konecny, Jakub Voracek, Oskar Lindblom, Scott Laughton and Justin Braun.
“We have four games to play and a very tight schedule,” said Flyers coach Alain Vigneault on Tuesday. “Basically, we have a very limited practice time to prepare for Thursday and then we have to fly five hours to Lake Tahoe to play a game at noon (3 pm Eastern time). Not much time, but that’s what is. We have to deal with it and we have to deal with it head on. “
The atypical 2020-21 schedule saw more changes on Tuesday for the Flyers. At the moment, the team’s focus is to face Rangers for their first game in 11 days.
“It shouldn’t be hard to be competitive; it’s just the mentality of the next opponent,” said Kevin Hayes on Tuesday, saying he was insufficient against New York. “Obviously we are losing some important players, but I think everyone will compete, whether you are a regular in this lineup or you have just been called up and are playing your first game. There is no doubt whether you should compete or not. do your best and do your best and I think we’ll be fine. “
Schedule changes
The Flyers on Tuesday had five games rescheduled. The composition dates for the Flyers’ postponed games from last Tuesday (in the capitals) and Sunday (in Rangers) are being defined.
