Britt Reid is no longer on the Chiefs’ coaching staff

Britt Reid is no longer a member of the Kansas City Chiefs coaching staff.

Chiefs’ head coach Andy Reid’s 35-year-old son was put on leave during his expired contract period, meaning he’s no longer an outside club employee, ESPN reported Wednesday.

The Chiefs announced on Tuesday that Britt Reid had been placed on administrative leave during an investigation into a traffic accident that left two children injured, one in critical condition.

Britt Reid was involved in a multi-vehicle accident on Thursday near the team’s training facility next to Arrowhead Stadium. He did not travel to the Super Bowl in Tampa Bay, where the Chiefs lost 31-9.

He told police he drank “two or three drinks” and had a prescription for Adderall when the accident occurred, according to a search warrant issued Thursday night. Police said they were investigating whether Reid, who had already been convicted of drunk driving on his record, was ill before the accident.

The NFL is investigating whether Reid violated the league’s personal conduct policy.

Ariel Young, 5, was identified by the Chiefs as the girl from the accident and remains in critical condition until Tuesday. The team also said it reached out to its family and is providing support and resources.

Kansas City police said the accident happened shortly after 9 pm on Thursday, when a truck hit two vehicles on the side of a highway ramp. They also said that a report on the investigation will be issued within 30 to 60 days.

After the Chiefs’ defeat at the Suoer Bowl on Sunday, Andy Reid spoke about it for the first time.

“My heart is with those involved, the family of those girls who fight for their lives,” said Reid. “From a human point of view, my heart bleeds for them. ”

Thursday’s accident was not the first time that a tragedy struck Andy Reid’s family.

Her son, Garrett, died at 29 from an accidental drug overdose during the Eagles’ training camp in 2012. Britt was sentenced to 8 to 23 months in prison plus five months of probation for possession of a gun and drugs in 2007.
