Britt Reid: 5-year-old still in critical condition after car accident involving Chiefs’ assistant coach

Coach Andy Reid’s son Reid was involved in an accident on Thursday night that sent two children to the hospital, officials said.

According to the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department, three vehicles were involved in the accident, which took place on the south ramp to Interstate 435 at Stadium Drive near Arrowhead Stadium, the Chiefs’ Field.

Police said a Chevrolet Impala was deactivated on the ramp and the driver asked family members for help. His family arrived and parked his Chevrolet Traverse south of the disabled car.

A Dodge Ram truck allegedly driven by Reid hit both vehicles.

A 4- and 5-year-old child at Traverse was transported to a local hospital, with the 5-year-old suffering fatal injuries, police said. Impala and Traverse drivers were not injured, police said.

The driver of the Dodge Ram, who sustained injuries that were not fatal, was being investigated for physical damage, according to the police incident report.

In a search warrant first obtained by KSHB, an affiliate of CNN, police identified Britt Reid as the driver of the Dodge Ram truck. Reid told a responding officer that he had consumed “two to three” drinks after the officer noticed an alcohol odor “emanating” from Reid, as well as “bloodshot and red eyes”. Reid also told police that he is taking the prescription drug Adderall, according to the search warrant.

The officer conducted a sobriety test and observed signs of disability, the warrant says. Reid was taken to a local hospital after complaining of stomach pain.

Reid was not charged with any crime.

According to the search warrant, a computer check by the police revealed that Reid had “several previous DUI contacts.” The police requested and received permission from a judge to collect blood from Reid to assist in his investigation.

In a statement, the Kansas City Chiefs said: “The organization has been informed of an accident involving several vehicles involving External Linebacker trainer Britt Reid. We are in the process of gathering information and will have no further comments at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone involved. “

The Chiefs are scheduled to play against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at the Super Bowl LV on Sunday in Tampa, Florida. But Reid, the coach of the team’s external linebackers, will lose the game, according to a pool report on Saturday.

The report added that the team maintains its earlier statement on information gathering and said the team had no further comment.
