Britney Spears’ tutelage dominated this week’s headlines following the release of the controversial New York Times Framing documentary Britney Spears.

The timing of the launch was fortuitous, as the 39-year-old pop star’s long guardianship process is returning to court on Thursday.

Spears has been fighting for more autonomy in his life and has been trying to take control of his father Jamie Spears, who ran the guardianship for more than a decade.

Britney’s legal team will appear at a hearing on the guardianship case in a Los Angeles court, however, the star should not appear.

His list of expensive lawyers is trying to convince a judge to permanently remove Jamie Spears as the only conservative who controls his career, finances and wealth.

The princess of pop has also been working to have all guardianship suspended or loosened.

In the late summer of 2020, Britney’s lawyers sent paperwork stating that she was “strongly opposed” to her father controlling her assets and finances, according to TMZ.

Instead, the singer wished, at the time, that her temporary conservative Jodi Montgomery would assume the role permanently.

Jamie was named conservative of his daughter in 2008, after his public collapse. However, in the past year, he has left office due to continuing health problems.

Britney’s tutelage returned to the headlines after the release of Framing Britney Spears, which illuminated her infamous breakdown and the ensuing legal battle to successfully and safely manage her career.

Although The Toxic singer did not approach the documentary directly, she used Twitter to apparently suggest that there is much more to her story than Framing Britney Spears has provided.

“Remember, no matter what we think we know about a person’s life, it’s nothing compared to the real person who lives behind the lens,” she tweeted.

The main motivation for the changes that Britney is seeking in her legal status seemed to be her desire not to continue acting.

In November, a lawyer for the pop sensation told a court that Britney is afraid of her father and refuses to perform again until he is removed as his conservative.

“My client informed me that she is afraid of her father,” Britney’s lawyer, Samuel D. Ingham, told a judge during a hearing to determine whether another conservative should be appointed. “She also stated that she will not perform while her father is in charge of her career.”

The circus singer has not performed live since October 2018, when she closed the final stages of her Piece of Me tour, after completing her residency in Las Vegas on December 31, 2017.

In another tweet this week, Spears appeared to address these reports, insisting that although she loves being on stage, she is ‘taking the time to learn and be normal’ and to ‘enjoy the basics of everyday life’.
