Britney Spears’ father defends himself while Republicans call for a Congressional hearing on his guardianship

The two congressmen wrote a letter to the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, Jerrold Nadler, asking for a hearing to “examine whether Americans are unjustly imprisoned in conservatories.”

They quoted Spears and his father in their letter.

“The most striking example is perhaps the case of multi-platinum artist Britney Spears. Since 2008, Spears has been under an orderly judicial tutelage,” they wrote. “The facts and circumstances that gave rise to this agreement remain in dispute, but involve questionable motives and legal tactics by his now conservative father, Jamie Spears.”

“Jamie Spears has diligently and professionally fulfilled his duties as one of Britney’s conservatives, and his love for his daughter and dedication to protecting her is clearly evident to the court. Whenever Britney wants to end her guardianship, she can ask her lawyer to file a petition to terminate it; she has always had that right, but in 13 years she has never exercised it, “wrote Thoreen.

Jamie Spears was first appointed by a court to be co-conservative of his daughter’s assets and person in 2008, after a series of personal issues for the singer they have publicly represented. Britney Spears’ lawyer, Samuel D. Ingham III, filed for removal of his father as a conservative last August. During a hearing on the matter in November, Ingham said Britney was “scared” of her father. The judge decided to keep Jamie Spears as a conservative and appointed the Bessemer Trust to co-conserve his $ 60 million estate.

Elder Spears told CNN earlier this month that he, too, wants the guardianship to end.

“[Jamie] I would love nothing more than to see Britney not need guardianship, “Thoreen told CNN at the time.” Whether or not there will be an end to guardianship really depends on Britney. If she wants to end her guardianship, she can file a petition to end it. Jamie is not suggesting that he is the perfect father or that he would receive any ‘Father of the Year’ awards. Like any parent, he doesn’t always agree with what Britney might want. But Jamie believes that every decision he made was in her best interest. “

Britney did not comment publicly on the ongoing battle for conservation. The next guardianship hearing is scheduled for March 17.
