Joseph Flavill has been in a coma for 10 months. He woke up recently. And he had no idea about the virus – even though he was infected twice, according to BBC News.
Wait, what happened?
Joseph Flavill, a 19-year-old boy, fell into a coma after being hit by a car in March 2020, just before the first blockade in England.
- “It’s almost like he slept through the pandemic,” his aunt, Sally Flavill-Smith, told Staffordshire Live.
Flavill woke up recently. But he knew nothing about the coronavirus pandemic.
- According to CNN, the UK had only 23 cases of coronavirus at the time of the Flavill accident on March 1. Most of the cases had occurred in China. There was a death in the United States at the time, too.
Reaction
- “When he gets out of this, life will not be as he knows it,” Flavill’s other aunt, Kate Yarbo, told CNN. “How do you describe this?
- “I think it will be a shock. We are still processing this – I’m not sure if you can really describe what this pandemic is like. “
- “We are also very excited to report that Joseph has slowly begun to emerge from his coma two state, and is beginning to respond to simple commands and stimuli,” wrote the family on Joseph’s Journey, a website dedicated to his recovery.
One more thing
According to BBC News, the teenager also took COVID-19 twice while in the hospital.
