Bridgerton made an explosive debut on Netflix, arriving in the middle of a more relaxed holiday season, spent at home and indoors. With the masses quarantined, Shonda Rhimes’ adaptation of Julia Quinn’s popular book series became an instant hit, sparking discussions about timelines and sparking devoted passions (hello, Duke of Hastings). With a colorful setting in 1813 Regency London, hot romances, flashy wardrobes and provocative scandals, how could viewers resist? For those of us who went through our binges during the holidays, we investigate what might come next Bridgerton.
The second season has not yet been confirmed, but it seems likely.
At this point, Netflix has yet to confirm the renewal, despite the program’s obvious popularity among viewers. However, several websites reported a listing at Weekly Production for a project titled “Bridgerton 02” that will start in Uxbridge, England, in March 2021, suggesting that a next season is underway. We are still waiting for an official word from Netflix, however.
This bee at the end may be a hint of the second season’s plot.
After Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor) and her husband Simon, the Duke of Hastings (Regé-Jean Page) receive a child at the end of Episode 8, a bee appears at his window. Julia Quinn’s readers know that it is a tribute to Bridgerton’s late patriarch, Edmund, who died of an allergic reaction caused by a bee sting, leaving his wife, Violet, and children behind. The story of his death is revealed in the prologue to Bridgerton’s second novel, The viscount who loved me, which focuses on the eldest son, Anthony, Squire points. Anthony (played by Jonathan Bailey) develops fear of bees as a result of his father’s premature death.
Because the first season of Bridgerton vaguely focused on the first book in the series, The duke and me, it is possible that the second season will focus on the sequel, delving deeper into Anthony’s life.
Phoebe Dynevor wants the show to focus more on Anthony as well.
“I think, obviously, if we’re following the books, it’s kind of Anthony’s turn now,” said Dynevor BAZAAR.com, pointing at her character’s older brother. “I would like to see what happens next. Also, I would like to see Daphne get involved in Anthony’s love life, as he was so involved in hers,” she added.
Daphne and Simon could find more problems in paradise.
After the prospect of having children nearly separated them, the couple (and now new parents) may face new challenges as their story continues, Regé-Jean Page thinks. “I’m not sure I believe in paradise. I know that the romance genre generally does – part of the deal is that you will have a happy ending,” he told TV Land about what could result from the Daphne and Simon story.
He added: “They get married very young. They still have a lot to grow. They have a lot to do and I think it will always be fun to watch them do it together.”
Showrunner Chris Van Dusen has a plan to continue the series.
When asked to continue Bridgerton after the first season, Van Dusen said The wrap, “It may be too early to talk about this point. I have a plan and a vision in my head for success.”
He added: “The first season was about Daphne and followed her relationship, her love story with Simon. Bridgerton books [written by Julia Quinn] – there are eight books, there are about eight brothers. And, with success, I would love to be able to explore stories and novels for all the Bridgerton brothers. Of course, I would love to be able to do that. “
Lady Whistledown has ideas for the second season.
The final episode revealed the big secret behind the mysterious gossip columnist Lady Whistledown: that her infamous sheets of scandal were actually written by young Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan). Now that her identity has been revealed, how could she play another season?
“One of the great things I really hope is that, of course, Eloise [Bridgerton, Penelope’s best friend] would be entering society, “said Coughlan BAZAAR. “And I’m very excited, both in real life and in history, to have a friend at the balls. Just to let Penelope have a little more fun, because I feel like she can’t do it.”
Coughlan wants to see Penelope “be a young girl and have fun, and hopefully get a little more confident.” She added that public awareness of Whistledown’s identity “will be incredible, because it is as if they are aware of the secret”. Remember, Londoners from Bridgerton I still don’t know who Whistledown really is.
