Bridgerton is a new eight-part period drama that was produced by Shonda Rhimes ‘production company Shondaland and was created as part of Shonda Rhimes’ multi-million dollar deal with the Netflix streaming service.
Set in London in the Regency era, the show is inspired by Julia Quinn’s best-selling novels and follows the lives of eight brothers as they sail through love and life in British high society.
Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy about the future of the show, Bridgerton showrunner Chris Van Dusen joked that, all going well, the show could continue for years to come – at least.

“The foundation of the first season is really Simon and Daphne’s love story,” explained Van Dusen.
“We focus on the Bridgerton eldest daughter, Daphne. But we know that there are eight Bridgerton books or eight Bridgeton brothers, and I would love to be able to explore love and romance stories for all of them. “
Bridgerton stood out in the period drama genre, as it has a unique twist on Lady Whistledown’s anonymous personality.

This character was compared to the eponymous blogger of a successful TV show Gossip Girl and she leads the commentary of the first series (voiced by none other than Dame Julie Andrews) and she reveals scandals and secrets of the rich in her newsletter.
Lady Whistledown’s identity is revealed at the end of season 1 and Derry girls Star Nicola Coughlan (who plays Penelope Featherington on the Netflix series) said the end of the series is something special.

“I think it’s one of the most satisfying final episodes of any series I’ve ever seen,” she explained.
“So much happens and opens up questions and answers to other people, and I don’t think people will be disappointed by that.”
Bridgerton the first season is now available for streaming on Netflix.
