‘Bridgerton’ seen by more than 63 million families, says Netflix

“Bridgerton” had a real reception on its debut on Netflix.

According to the streaming giant, the Shondaland series is projected to reach 63 million families within 28 days of its Christmas day debut. This would make it the fifth largest Netflix original series release of all time. The program also reached first place in the top 10 of Netflix in 76 countries.

Netflix also claims that December 2020 and the week of December 25th to 31st were the largest ever recorded for the month and holiday week, as measured in total watch hours and average watch hours per subscriber.

It is important to note, however, that Netflix does not measure its audience the way traditional networks do. The number of viewers that Netflix reports is based on the number of subscribers who watched at least two minutes of certain content.

Still, the series proved to be arguably popular from the start, maintaining a critical approval rating of 92% on Rotten Tomatoes. The news is undoubtedly welcome on Netflix, as “Bridgerton” is the first series to premiere under executive producer Shonda Rhimes’ nine-digit general agreement with Netflix.

The program is inspired by Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton family novel series. It follows Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor), the eldest daughter of the mighty Bridgerton family, on her debut in Regency London’s competitive wedding market.

Netflix also released audience information for the film derived from “Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl”, “We Can Be Heroes”, by writer and director Robert Rodriguez. The film, which was also released on Christmas Day, is expected to reach 44 million families in four weeks after its premiere. A sequel is already in development.
