Shondaland’s Netflix giant hit Bridgerton obtained his first major recognition with two nominations for the SAG award, Drama Series ensemble and Male Attor in a drama series, for the star of the 1st season Regé-Jean Page.
It was one of several series that were surprisingly excluded from Golden Globe nominations yesterday, with the SAG Awards correcting oversight.
HBO’s acclaimed limited series I can destroy you, whose contempt for Globes has been heavily scrutinized, received a SAG award nomination for its creator, director and star Michaela Coel in the Female Actor category in a Television Movie or Limited Series.
And Netflix Dead to me, who was also not found on the list of 2021 Golden Globe nominations after making success at the 2020 Emmy with a series of nominations, received three mentions, Set in a comedy series and two nominations for Actor in a comedy series for both of its stars Christina Applegate and Lina Cardellini.

With her mixture of Jane Austen and gossip Girl, Bridgerton has taken pop culture by storm since its December 25 debut. Redefining the genres of drama and romance at the time and breaking racial conventions while turning Page and Phoebe Dynevor into global stars, the adaptation of Julia Quinn’s novel captivated viewers to break Netflix’s audience records, with 82 million families having seen at least a part of it in the first four weeks. The series’ success catapulted Page into the James Bond conversation.
The SAG award nomination adds to a list of critical recognition for Coel brutes I can destroy you, in which she portrays a woman putting together the pieces of the events of a night when she was sexually abused. The series, an honest exploration of sexual consent, recently won the Best Ensemble Cast in a New Scripted Series at the Independent Spirit Awards, although there is no equivalent category for limited series at the SAG Awards.
After the two Golden Globe nominations for Emily in Paris, the series’ Deborah Copaken called the HFPA for neglecting I can destroy you.
Black comedy Dead to me expanded its grip on the SAG Award in Season 2 after getting a nomination last year for Applegate. Her three SAG nominations reflect similar nominations that the show’s second season received at the Emmy, Outstanding Comedy Series and two Lead Actress nominations in a Comedy series by Applegate and Cardellini.
