Detective Myles Cosgrove was fired on Tuesday for using lethal force for firing 16 shots at Taylor’s home and failing to activate the body’s camera, according to a copy of his letter of termination.
Detective Joshua Jaynes, who had written the search warrant for the raid on Taylor’s home, was also fired on Tuesday for “failing to complete a search warrant operations plan form” and for being a liar when verifying that the Taylor’s previous boyfriend, Jamarcus Glover, was receiving packages at Taylor’s house, according to a copy of his termination letter obtained by CNN.
Cosgrove and Jaynes can appeal the resignation, which would lead to a review by the LMPD Council of Merit and could lead to a public hearing.
CNN contacted its lawyers and also the Fraternal Order of the Police.
Cameron said Cosgrove fired the fatal shot – which he said was justified because Taylor’s boyfriend shot the police first.
“My daughter deserves, at least, like all injured victims, a competent and capable prosecutor, committed to the proper investigation of the case, evaluating the law from an impartial perspective, presenting the evidence and allowing the jurors to perform the functions guaranteed for them under the law, “Palmer wrote in his request for relief.
