Breanne Marie Jones and her father, the suspect in the case, were found after witnesses reported seeing them running into the forest.
This tip led the police to a massive search.
Breanne and her father Jonathan Lewis Jones were found shortly afterwards.
Jonathan Lewis Jones was accused of kidnapping the 10-year-old, along with Christina Renee Edge.
The two were arrested on Tuesday at around 5:30 pm.
The Sampson County Sheriff’s Office said Breanne was with other family members while Sampson County Social Services was investigating a case. During the night, his father went to that family member’s home and took Breanne.
Sheriff Jimmy Thornton told ABC11 that this was the first Amber Alert that they dealt with in a long time.
“It is encouraging to know that in less than 24 hours, we were able to locate the two suspects and the child,” said Thornton.
As soon as the child was safely recovered, EMS came on the scene to make sure Breanne was in good shape.
Thornton said it was a collective effort to make sure she was safe, “I am just relieved that we found the child. That was our number one priority and it ended successfully.”
